Using the motorways: buy vignettes

The expanding motorway networks and services cannot be maintained without compensation from the users. We strive to collect these fees in a comfortable, simple and obstacle-free fashion. Presently we use one of the most comfortable methods of fee payment, the proportionate motorway vignettes.

The vignettes are differentiated based on the vehicle classes and the duration of their validity, making the choice easier. The vignette satisfying your needs can be purchased at one of numerous points of sale.

Please make sure you only access toll motorways with valid vignettes!

Motorway vignettes are now available at a discount price at the customer service offices of the State Motorway Management Company Ltd. and at petrol stations all across the country.

Payment with Mobile

As of the 17th of March 2006, payment for the D1 type 4-day motorway access is possible via cellular telephone.

Motorists ordering and paying through text messages may only access the motorway upon receiving the confirmation text message confirming the order. Presently the service is only available to prepaid and pay-as-you-go customers of Pannon and T-Mobile. Other cell phone companies will soon join the initiative.

Cell phone payment for motorway use may be initiated from any location, and requires no vignette. Motorists taking advantage of the new service are required to send their licence numbers in a text message to their provider at 8100-100, omitting spaces (e.g.: ABC123), prior to accessing the motorways.

In the case of licence numbers registered abroad, the international automobile ensign of the given country must also be indicated at the end of the message, separated from the licence number by a space (e.g.: ABC123 CZ)

The details of the transaction are sent to the customer in a text message. The purchase is confirmed by answering this message.

Please make sure the entered data is correct!

The successful transaction is confirmed in a text message. Starting from the arrival of this SMS the motorway may be travelled upon until midnight on the third day following the day of purchase.

If the data returned for confirmation by the provider is incorrect, please wait 3 minutes for the arrival of the voiding text message, and then start the process again with the correct data.

Payment for motorway use may be inspected electronically at any point within the territory of the toll motorway sections based on the licence number, without stopping the vehicle.

Furthermore, SMMC Ltd. is also entitled to inspect warranted use at various times and locations through mobile inspection groups.

The State Motorway Management Company Ltd. has not raised the prices of the vignettes as a result of introducing the new service.

The cellular phone providers charge a HUF 100 service fee above the price of the text messages for every transaction.

1. What is required for cell phone purchase:

1.1. T-Mobile or Pannon sets capable of sending and receiving text messages.

1.2. Prepay or pay-as-you-go relationship with the above cellular phone providers.

2. The purchase:

2.1. Send your licence number to your provider in a text message to 8100-100 prior to accessing the motorway (e.g. ABC123)

2.2. In the case of licence numbers registered abroad, the international automobile ensign ofthe given country must also be indicated at the end of the message, separated from the licence number by a space (e.g.: ABC123 CZ)

2.3. You will then receive a text message containing the details of the transaction and asking you to confirm the purchase with a reply message to that number.

2.4. You will finally receive a message confirming successful purchase.

Conditions of the service

he service may be used according to the conditions of Mobile Purchases and those defined by the State Motorway Management Company Ltd.

Price of service

The charges of the service are in every case determined by State Motorway Management Company Ltd. and the valid Act regulating motorway use. T-Mobile cannot provide information on these. The other charges are defined by the current price tables of T-Mobile Hungary Ltd. and Pannon GSM Telecommunications Ltd.

When does right of access commence?

The validity period commences upon the arrival of the text message confirming the purchase and ends at midnight on the third day following the transaction.

What to do if the data I provided is incorrect?

If you detect errors in the data sent back by the provider for confirmation, do not verify them, instead wait 3 minutes for the message indicating voided purchase, then start the process again with the correct data.

If you detect incorrect data after having confirmed the purchase, you may only correct them in person at a customer service office of SMMC Ltd.

How is inspection performed?

· Payment for motorway use may be inspected electronically at any point within the territory of the toll motorway sections based on the licence number, without stopping the vehicle.

· SMMC Ltd. is also entitled to inspect warranted use at various times and locations through mobile inspection groups. In such cases the driver of the vehicle is obliged to stop the vehicle and present the automobile registration of the given vehicle (and trailer) to verify the category. The motorway management company is entitled to carry out vignette inspection and inspection of warranted motorway use in the case of electronic purchase. This may be licence-based inspection with mobile devices anywhere within the territory of the motorway toll sections. This includes – besides the main route – rest areas, and junction points accessible through and leading to toll sections.

5. Caution

If you opt for the above method of payment, make certain you only access the motorway having received the confirmation text message. If you receive a negative reply or no reply at all the purchase was unsuccessful.

Warranty registration entries include hour, minute, and second, so it is very important to initiate the process prior to access.
