If you’ve ever been even remotely near the National Theater, and it’s wort it to go there at any time of day or night, you will have noticed a strange, squat cone-shaped spiral sculpture, near the rear of the theater next to the water. This funky spot is actually a building called the ziggurat, which can be interpreted as a distant reference to the Tower of Babel or the sun pyramids of the Maya. After climbing the spiral-shaped path to the top of the pyramid, there is a pair of royal thrones. The seven rooms inside are actually an art gallery, and you can descend the inner staircase to view each one. Don’t forget to look at the spacey ceiling above you! All in all it makes for a clever and off-beat adventure while you explore the grounds and buildings of the National Theater and Palace of the Arts.
