This is the Office of the President of the Republic of Hungary. The role of the president differs from that of the prime minister and is to symbolize the unity of the nation and watch over the democratic functioning of the state. Current president László Sólyom, does this from this beautiful building located in the castle district. The 200-year-old palace was restored after having been bombed in World War II. Originally built by Count Sándor, it was sold to the state in 1867.

Although the building is only open to the public once a year on the third weekend in September during the National Cultural Heritage days, have a look while passing by on your visit to the castle district. The classical exterior is a beautiful presence as you come off of the funicular.
