The island is well worth a visit the other 51 weeks of the year as well, as the northern half of it is one of the largest recreational parks in the city, and is a peaceful alternative to the busy Margit Island.
You can find a sports center, tennis courts, a kayak club, playgrounds for children and it is an ideal place for cycling or just a quiet stroll.
Óbudai Island is also the closest example of what the natural riverbank had once been like before it had been levied and developed as in the more urban section. Hence, it is a favorite spot for migrating water fowl and birdwatchers alike.
