Budapest’s other large city park is the Népliget or people’s Park. Located in the south-east of the city, it is easily accessible by tram and metro. While the park is often thought of simply as the bus depot for intercity buses, it is actually a large, green, and beautiful place. Having become a park in 1860, it covers nearly 300 acres. You can find several tree-lined paths and plenty of natural beauty here. Statues decorate some areas of the park and create a nice view while strolling or enjoying the sunshine from a bench. In addition to being a lovely park, the Népliget is also home to the Planetarium where you can go for astronomical and laser shows. Sitting under the large domed ceiling you are transported into the heavens for a magical sight. Take tram 1 or 1A to one of three stops bordering the park, or the Népliget metro stop on blue line M3 to reach the park.
