Located on Heroes’s Square in one of the two imposing buildings that characterize this famous corner of the city, the Museum of Fine Arts is one of not just Budapest’s but also Central Europe’s most significant museums. Built with the intention of being monumental yet unpretentious and enhancing the works housed here, the museum is home to collections of Egyptian art, classical antiquities, old master paintings, sculpture, prints and drawings, and art from after 1800.
