Budapest’s finest green spot is Margaret Island, located in the middle of the Danube between Margaret Bridge and Árpád Bridge. A favourite place for joggers, the island was once actually three small islands that were since framed with a common concrete shore. The unique location of this protected park means that it is quiet, natural, and easily accessible.
Margaret Island is an ideal place for a good walk, reading in the grass, or a game of football with friends. If you like gardens, there are various planned gardens of different types, including a Japanese garden. In the summertime several open air cafes await thirsty visitors.
The few buildings allowed on the island include several sports facilities, the Palathinus Baths, and the ruins of the nunnery where the island’s namesake lived, and as you enter the island you are greeted by a „singing” fountain. Certainly amusing, this fountain attracts passerby and is a cool place to rest in the hot summer months.
