The statue standing on the top of Gellért Hill is significant feature of the cityscape. The female figure was created in 1947 as the central figure of a Libertation Monument. Dominating the cityscape of Budapest from almost every angle, the statue including its pedestal stands 40 meters tall. The artwork of Zsigmond Kisfaludi Strobl, the bronze female figure is holding high a palm branch, the spirit of Liberty is 14 meters tall.
