This beautiful and grand square is home to the heroes of Hungarian history. Standing center stage on a high column that is impossible to miss is the statue of the Archangel Gabriel, supported by statues of Árpád and the other six Hungarian chieftains. Behind this centerpiece is a semicircular, ornamental colonnade with the pantheon of Hungarian kings and other great historical figures. The tomb of the Unknown Soldier is also found here. One can stroll through the square taking in the important figures or mingle with the youngsters who often congregate here. Heroes’ Square is also the link between Andrássy Avenue and the City Park and home to the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Arts. So, be sure not to miss this important landmark on your way to view some lovely works of art or a stroll in the park. Approached from Andrássy Avenue, it is difficult to ignore the magnitude of the square as it grows before you.
