In front of the famous Gellért Hotel and Baths is a unique fountain. Evoking the purpose of the building behind it, the fountain directs a steam of water through an intricate path that starts on a blue fountain base and eventually ends up in four channels along the ground, aligned with the cardinal directions.

Above the fountain is a stone dome, supported by pillars. Carved of smooth stone, the dome is heavy, yet open in a way that allows a glimpse of the fountain while passing by. It is however best viewed from inside the dome where one can actually sit and admire the movement of the water from the fountain.

One of Budapest’s many beautiful fountains, this particular one offers a different style and has the fortune of being located on a busy and famous square. Be sure to stop and admire it on your way in or out of the Gellért Bath, or after the walk down from the Gellért Hill.
