The hassle of trying to change travelers` cheques at the weekend, rip-off bureaux de change and the allure of the black market have all gone in Hungary; automatic teller machines (ATMs) accepting credit cards are available anywhere in the the country. Having some cash on you is also a good idea, just in case you are in small place and the ATM is out of order on a sunny Sunday...
You can use your credit cards almost anywhere in the country (except for small hotels, pensions and in general: smaller shops). Beware of the credit card crimes, you can read more about it at the dangers and warnings section.
Do not change much money at the airport, the rates are very bad, use your credit card where possible (lots of places). Do not exchange money on the street in any case, especially not from Arabs or Gypsies. One of the best places to exchange your money is in Vorosmarty ter in the centre of town, next to a lovely shopping street (official exchange office), or go to AMEX in Petofi utca, also close to here, or one of these places:
