Die Ungarn sind weder slawisch, noch germanisch. Die Ungarn waren die letzten, die während der grossen Wanderungen nach Europa kamen. In Ungarn leben ca.10.1 Millionen Menschen und weitere fünf Millionen auf der anderen Seite der Grenze. Von den fünf Millionen leben zwei Millionen in Rumänien (zweitgrösste ethnische Gruppe in Europa nach den Albanen in Yugoslavien), aber sie leben auch in Slovakien,Yugoslavien, Kroatien, Ukraine, Österreich, in den USA und in Canada. Auch in Ungarn leben etnische Gruppen aus Deutschland, Slovakien, Slovenien, Kroatien, Serbien und Rumänien.

In Ungarn leben zweidrittel der Menschen in der Stadt, davon zwei Millionen in Budapest. Weitere grosse Städte sind: Debrecen(220,000), Miskolc (211,000), Szeged (185,000), Pecs (179,000) und Gyor (130,000). Die Anzahl der Selbstmörder (39 per 100,000 Menschen) ist das grösste Zahl in Europa. Russland ist erst zweite mit 26 per 100,000. Ca. 2% der Ungarn ist ein Analphabet. Die Schulung ist bis dem 16. Lebensjahr obligatorisch.
