Budapest ist 249 km weit östlich von Wien, genau zwischen Sofia and Berlin. Die Donau ist die Hauptarterie von Budapest, und fliesst zwischen Buda und Pest.

Alle acht Brücken stehen jetzt, da sie nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg wiedergebaut worden.

Es gibt drei Hauptbahnhöfe, wohin die meisten Touristen ankommen: Keleti (Ostbahnhof) oder Nyugati (Westbahnhof) in Pest oder Déli (Südbahnhof) in Buda. Alle sind mit den U-Bahn Linien leicht zu ernähern.

Von Deák tér führt der "grüne" Andrássy út zur Stadtpark (Városliget), und die kleine Ringstrasse (Károly körút, Múzeum körút und Vámház körút) führt zur Freiheitsbrücke und zum Gellert-Berg. Die grosse Ringstrasse besteht aus: Szent István körút, Teréz körút, Erzsébet körút, József körút and Ferenc körút. Wichtige Kreuzungen in der Stadt sind: Baross tér-Ostbahnhof; Blaha Lujza tér, Ecke der Rákóczi út und Erzsébet körút; und Moszkva tér. Óbuda ist bei dem westlichen Ende der Árpád-Brücke. Aquincum ist hinter Óbuda.

Budapest hat 22 Bezirke. Die römische Nummern vor den Adressen bezeichnen in welchem Bezirk die Strasse ist.

Die beste Orientierung ist eine Stadtplan. Stadtpläne kann man überall in Budapest kaufen für ungefähr 200 Forints.
