Many travel agencies, including Ibusz and Gray Line (tel.: 331 0043), V Báthory utca 22, offer three-hour city tours and excursions further afield to the Danube Bend and Lake Balaton lasting between nine and 10 hours.

Hungaria Koncert (317 2754) has a number of specialist tours, including one that focuses on Budapest’s Jewish heritage most Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1.30 p.m. The four to five-hour program me includes a visit to the Great Synagogue, a walking tour of the ghetto, cantor music and a concert by the Budapest Klezmer Band. Tickets are available from locations throughout the city, including the Duna Palota at V Zrínyi utca and at the entrance to the synagogue.
