If you need to report a lost or stolen passport or credit card or a crime, go to the central police station ( 312 3456) at V Deák tér 16-18. If possible, bring along a Hungarian speaker or dredge up what little German you may know.

The office in Budapest dealing with foreigners’ registrations is KEOKH (tel: 318 0800) at VI Városligeti fasor 46-48 (metro: Hősök tere).
