Inaugurated on the fiftieth anniversary of the 1956 revolution, and the site of a major part of the celebration, this monument is of great significance to Hungarian history as it pays tribute to the heroic event. In what has only recently been officially named „The Palace of the ’56 Revolutions”, now stands a massive memorial statue made up of many rectangular pillars. You can actually walk among the pillars, making it a truly accessible and moving monument that belongs to the public. It is not to be confused with the statue standing in Kossuth tér or any of the other 1956 statues, which are also worth a look. This is the newest and largest memorial. The monument is particularly beautiful at night, when it is well-lit in a respectful and affective way. Don’t miss it when you go to the City Park or Heroes’ Square. It is located just beyond the Palace of Art, between Dózsa György street and the park.
