It is unlikely that an introduction to the art of Van Gogh is necessary, since his personage, unusual life and oeuvre are already well-known to the art-appreciating audience; however, we have only had rare opportunities to encounter his artworks in Hungarian museums until now.

Within our exhibition, alongside his paintings loaned by distinguished international museums and playing a prominent role in Van Gogh’s life-work, rarely seen drawings and graphic works in the possession of the Museum of Fine Arts, as well as works formerly preserved in Hungarian private collections will be put on view.

The large-scale exhibition comprising nearly 150 works has five parts. The monographic part exhibiting van Gogh’s ouevre includes 43 paintings, 24 drawings and 10 graphic works (lithographs and engravings).

As a prelude to the exhibition, artists who influenced van Gogh’s art will be introduced in two parts: first, those Old Masters who had a determining role in the development of van Gogh’s art Rembrandt (1606-1669), Delacroix (1798-1863), Daubigny (1817-1878) and Millet (1814-1875) and, secondly, works by van Gogh’s Dutch contemporaries who influenced his art.

The final part of the exhibition focuses on the influence exerted by the Dutch master on early 20th-century Hungarian art and explores parallels to be found between the master’s work and Hungarian fine art.

Please note however, that in case of advanced purchase we deliver the tickets to your hotel and for this we charge an extra 20% for handling and delivery.

The tickets cannot be used at any time. Opening hours are divided into slots of one hour and you are supposed to choose the exact date and time slot to visit the exhibition. The ticket entitles you to enter the museum at any time within the selected time slot. There is one time slot in every hour from 10a.m. to 4 p.m.
