The Danube Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1961. Since then they have given many performances, both in Hungary and abroad. The Orchestra consists of 60 professional musicians. Their repertoire covers almost every musical styles from the Baroque music to the music of the 20thcentury. They have had international contacts since 1983 and have been invited to play in many foreign countries.

They have given performances in Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy. Many Hungarian and foreign guest-artists have performed with the orchestra, including Giuseppe de Stefano from Italy, James Galway, aflautist from Ireland or Ray Charles, jazz star from the USA.

Not only do the musicians work together in the orchestra but in several chamber orchestras as well. Besides their permanent conductor Deák András, they are often conducted by other Hungarian and foreign conductors.

Conductors
Deák András was born in 1960, in Budapest. From 1974-78 he studied piano and composition at Béla Bartók Vocational Secondary School for Music. He continued as a student at Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he was taught by famous Hungarian and foreign teachers, for example Franco Ferrara, Árpád Joó and Péter Eötvös. He took his first diploma in choral - conducting in 1983, and the second in conducting in 1986. From 1985-91 he was the conductor and arts manager of the Salgótarján Symphony Orchestra. He has been the principal conductor of the Danube Symphony Orchestra since 1991. In 1995 he was one of the best in the Hungarian Television`s International Conductors` Competition . He regularly performs on television and radio. In 1995 he made a CD with the Danube Symphony Orchestra. He has given many performances abroad (Finland in 1987, Czechoslovakia in 1988) and he has given annual performances in Germany and Switzerland since 1993.

The program that consists of some of the works above starts at 8.00 PM.

After the concert, from 10.00 PM we offer you a possibility to take delight in the view of Budapest by night from the river Danube on the board of our pleasure-boat.

The atmosphere of the concert can be continued on the river Danube. This will give you the best view of Budapest by night accompained by candlelight and an excellent warm and cold buffet supper-on-board (with drinks). The pleasure boat leaves for the one-hour cruise from a pier which is only a five-minute walk from the concert hall. Following the concert a hostess will accompany our guests to the pier.
