Budapest’s Marathon follows a scenic route along both banks of the Danube and across its bridges, which separate hilly Buda in the west and the wide boulevards of flat Pest to the east. For those who can’t quite run the full course, there’s an option to enter for the shorter runs (including a breakfast run on the day before).
Typically enough, even the most athletic locals can’t spend a day devoted to sports without a good dose of culture. In addition to the central sporting event, there’s a full-day series of concerts, entertainment and, of course, the obligatory pasta party the night before.
