Harmful UV radiation expected to reach record levels
Ultraviolet radiation levels in Hungary are expected to reach the historical record of 8.1 degrees on a scale of 10 today, the National Meteorological Service warned.Ultraviolet radiation, which can cause skin cancer, has reached that level twice in the past 13 years. Authorities urge everyone to take extra precautions. The heat alert may be extended until Sunday.
Budapest city council has asked city health institutions to ensure that staff pay particular attention to young and elderly patients as well as to those doing roadworks.
The National Ambulance Service is putting additional ambulances on alert while the heatwave lasts.
