HEV replaced by buses between Budapest and Szentendre
From Friday, August 24, until Wednesday, August 29, HÉV trains between Budapest and Szentendre will be replaced by buses, as the newly-renovated HÉV tracks are undergoing tests, reports mno.hu.
The first stage of the renovation of the Szentendre HÉV, which started in 2005, has been completed, announced Sándor Bősze, main department head of Budapest transport company BKV Zrt. As a result of the renovations, trains will be able to follow each other 25% more frequently, even every three minutes. Additionally, thanks to new track crossings, necessary repair works can be performed without interrupting services.
To enhance safety, the interior of the trains were fitted with cameras, a new emergency call system was installed, and passengers will be able to check schedule information on screens at each station, Bősze added.
So far, renovation works have totaled Ft 5 billion (€19.33 million).
