30,000 attend Budapest Critical Mass bicycle procession

Economy and Transport Minister János Kóka pledged that the network of cyclists lanes will rise from the current 2,000 to 4,000km by 2013, at the Critical Mass demonstration in Budapest on Saturday. Kóka said approximately Ft 60 billion, mostly EU funds, are available for the project.

Some 30,000 people took part in the bicycle protest arranged by Critical Mass European Car Free Day. The movement began in 2004 with the aim of popularising cycling, fighting against the rise in traffic numbers in the capital, and reducing smog.
