Public transport and cycling in spotlight on weekend Earth Day
Budapest transport company BKV and the Hungarian Cycling Club will jointly organise programmes to encourage cycling and the use of public transport on Earth Day this weekend, BKV spokeswoman Karola Kiricsi told MTI on Wednesday. The programmes aim to call attention to the environmental dangers of using cars and will try to encourage environmentally-conscious lifestyles, Kiricsi said. `The future is not in motorized transport,` she said.
Public transport and cycling could supplement each other and help Budapest rejuvenate, chairman of the Hungarian Cycling Club Janos Laszlo said.
On Earth Day on Sunday, thousands of cyclists will take to the roads again in Budapest and other major cities to hold the biannual Critical Mass protest ride. Civic organisations will also hold environmental events and family programmes on Sunday.
