The Hotel Gellert with its famous spa is in one of the most beautiful parts of the city, the central district in Buda, with the River Danube on one side and a green hill on the other.
The 88 year old Hotel Gellért is one of the oldest hotels in Europe, the "old lady" of traditional European style. If Budapest, this city bordering the Danube with its beautiful, graceful bridges is called the Queen of the Danube, the Gellért is the "first lady " of the Hungarian tourist industry.
Historically this is one of the 'grand' hotels of Europe and with many businessmen and travelers coming again to Budapest, it is ready to regain this accolade.
The style of the interior is art nouveau, with high glass domed ceiling and ornate ironwork.
The furnishings are formal, of traditional Central European design. There are many single bedrooms in addition to double rooms and delightful suites, some overlooking the Danube, others Gellert Hill.

The hotel has retained its gastronomic reputation, offering Hungarian specialties and international dishes, accompanied in the evening by gypsy music.
Gellért opened in 1918, restored in 1962 and in 1973, built in art nouveau style, located at the foot of Gellért Hill and sharing the building with the world famous Gellért Spa.
The wines are mostly local led by the majestic Tokay, beloved by Louis XIV The Coffee Shop is famous for its patisseries and ice-creams. The spa-baths cure many ailments. The 'sparkling' swimming pool, with its glass roof open in summer, and another pool with artificial waves are usually surrounded by sun worshippers. Budapest prides itself on its music, bridges, healing springs, monuments and pretty women! Directions: Take an inexpensive taxi or the inexpensive minibus from the airport, or the hydrofoil down the Danube from Vienna.
On then banks of the river Danube a good ten minutes walk from the city-center, business areas and the nearest subway station, 3 km from the railway station, 16/22 km from Ferihegy Airport I-II.
234 rooms, all with bath or shower, some with air-condition and each double with river/hillside view, direct dial AT&T telephone, minibar, cable TV, CNN, in house movies, hair drier and bathrobe. Rooms with connecting doors and extra large rooms are available!

The restaurants of the Hotel Gellért still retain the traditional gastronomic fame of the past left behind by Károly Gundel, the well known gastronome.

The Spa Centre is run by the management of the Budapest Spas Co. Ltd, so this is a different company we are dealing with. We have received numerous reports of theft lately. We called the management who denied the facts. We believe the matter is disgusting and we are deeply sorry for the ones who became victims. Please do not take any valuables to the pools with you.
