The hotel was first opened in 1914 following the pattern of the world famous Waldorf Astoria in New York. After the last great renovation finished in 2008, the hotel got its present face. Special attention was paid in order that the hotel preserves its excellent and unique tradition.

Astoria is a favourite setting among movie producers, more films were shot in the hotel, for example “Being Julia” with Annette Bening and Jeremy Irons.
