Welcome!!!

Today the castle functions as a hotel meeting all needs. There are four suites furnished in period style and four double rooms in the main building, and 17 more rooms in the wings. The representative main lounge and the library host courses, conferences and other events. There are 30 to 40 concerts staged in the castle at the opening ceremony of temporary exhibitions in the castle gallery. Recreational needs are served by a sauna, a solarium, and an indoor archery room and bowling hall. The paths of the well-tended garden lead to tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool and a stable, where horses await those visitors who wish to take a ride in the woods or jump fences. (Besides hotel guests, all visitors are welcome and requested to register in advance.)
The castle One of the many decorations in the castle

Szirák is situated on the gentle Southern slopes of the Cserhát mountain, merely 90 kilometres away from Budapest. It's most beautiful building is 250-year old baroque jewel box, the Roth-Teleki Castle. An inscription above the entrance informs us that the castle was built in 1748 by Tamás Királyfalvi Roth and his wife, Borbala Wattay. Resourcefully adapted to the steep hillside, the elegant main facade of the castle was designed to have three storeys, the lowest of which is concealed behind a full front terrace. Walking up one of the two doubly-curved flights of stairs in the middle of the building from the front garden, one does not even notice climbing up a floor.

From the hillside, however, the castle appears to be a one-storey building with playful, typically baroque and renaissance architectural elements and square turrets decorating the corners of the main facade an asymmetry unique in Hungarian castle architecture. When the only child of the first owners, Johanna, married one of the most educated aristocrats of the age, count Jozsef Teleki, the castle became the property of the Teleki family. Six magnificent wall paintings in the first floor main lounge are from that period, in the apparent niches the unknown painter represented scenes from Ovid's Metamorphosis with a so called grisaille technique to achieve protruding effect.
